This topic, connecting with other local seamstresses, is a subject that I really want to cover on a Mindset Monday.

I know for me, and some others, it feels a bit awkward when we think about getting to know our fellow seamstresses.

I personally need to meet more of the fine women who share my career in my small valley. I know they are out there, and I’m grateful to have them around. I am going to make a goal to have a luncheon at my home sometime this month.

A few years ago, I went to a small gathering in Idaho for a meet and greet for a small facebook group of bridal alterations people and bridal stores in southern Idaho.

Christa Nelsen Hannold had organized the facebook group and invited us all to meet at her home. I get brides from Boise and Rexburg Idaho often, so I joined the facebook group. What delightful ladies. In a beautiful backyard, we visited.

I met Erin Retelle, who strongly encouraged me to attend the ASDP conference in Boise that fall.  And that’s how I discovered the wonderful ASDP group.

I also met Heather Miller, a very talented and artistic bridal alterations seamstress who was an expert guest panelist on my Dyeing wedding dress symposium. She also has an etsy site where she sells bridal bustle diagrams. (Click here to buy them!)

I also met Monica Sailors who owns a bridal shop and is an expert seamstress. At the Boise ASDP conference I took the time to visit Monica at her bridal shop, and also Heather Miller’s lovely alterations shop. What true gems I discovered by attending this small meet and greet in Christa’s back yard.

Let’s all try and get familiar with our local seamstresses. We can support each other in so many ways.

Love
