I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. This is one of my favorite holidays because it’s all about getting together and enjoying family with no gift expectations. We all just sit down, eat, and talk in the kitchen. It’s all about love. My family is my greatest and most dear treasure.
I started a home based sewing business because I wanted to be with my family for important events, and unimportant things too. My sewing business has given me the flexibility to be there for my family. That was the main goal of my business.
Recently, an unexpected blessing has come from my Alterations Academy. My oldest daughter has joined the academy. Heather was raised around my business from the time she could sit on my lap and watch me sew. I think she is less intimidated of working on bridal gowns because she was raised in a home full of wedding dresses.
She is a talented seamstress, and seems to have the creative problem solving sort of brain that works well with bridal alterations. Her homework has been beautiful. She is in the middle of her first “build up”. She does fantastic work, the brides love her, and they pay her well. As I sit in my sewing room, over hearing the bride in the fitting room with Heather, I start to cry as the bride praises her and is so grateful to Heather for the lovely job she has done on the gown.
Heathers’ former work history was in fast food and gas station delis. The pay jump alone is life changing, but the appreciation and respect for her talents is also life changing. Any mother knows how it feels when their child makes that leap up into a professional field of work. Their confidence and maturity blossoms.
She is now an in-house seamstress for a new bridal shop in our valley. It’s only a few blocks away from her home. I’m so proud…..
If all the money and time I spent developing this online academy was for just this: my daughter becoming a seamstress for a bridal shop, it was all worth it. Every hour, every dollar, every frustration of trying to use technology, everything, just everything… it… was… all….worth…. it.
